A monthly payment from the Government of Canada for people who cannot work because of a long-term disability and who have paid into the CPP. In 2026 it is a basic amount of $610.46 a month plus an amount based on what you paid into the CPP, up to a maximum of $1,741.20 a month. It changes to a CPP retirement pension when you turn 65.

Who qualifies

People between 18 and 65 who have a mental or physical disability that stops them from working at any job on a regular basis, and that is long-term and not expected to get better or is likely to cause death. You must have contributed to the CPP in 4 of the 6 years before your disability stopped you from working, or in 3 of those 6 years if you contributed for 25 years or more in total. Credits from a former spouse or partner, or the child-rearing provision, may help you qualify.
