- Their stepsCheck you qualify (16+, SIN or other permission to work, education needed for your trade) and find a sponsor: an employer, a union, Employment Ontario, or, in high school, OYAP through your guidance counsellor. Age 18+: apply online in the Skilled Trades Ontario Portal. Age 16 or 17 (or if you cannot apply online): download the Application for Apprenticeship Training, get it signed by a parent or guardian and your sponsor, and send it by email or mail (call 647-847-3000 for the address). Once approved, sign the Training Agreement with your sponsor; you receive a Registered Apprentice Wallet Card to carry at work. Download your trade's Apprenticeship Training Standard logbook from the Trades Information page.
